Initiating and Using The Chip Burn Tool

Once you have your TunerPro R/T setup done and are ready to start reading out or writing a tune to the chip, you must ensure the software is initiated first.

NOTE: --- If you bought a Tuning Package from us, the chip comes with base tunes loaded. Regardless if it is a single program or 4 program chip, there are tunes on it. No need to load anything when you first open up the shipping box. This is here to show you how to make changes (via revised download or tuning template), or if you want to see the tune(s).

This is our NEW Hardware/Software How-To using the supplied burner/reader with the setup. It is a bit different than the old version so KNOW WHICH ONE YOU HAVE.

See the images below to get started.

enlightenedDRIVER NOTE: The drivers are verified via Windows 7 and up. XP MAY need to have the drivers manually installed. To get the 32BIT ONLY driver for Windows XP, go here. Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 10+ and 11 should load drivers when plugged in. Mac/Fruit PC --- Sorry, you're SOL........

Now, if you received your setup recently and this is your first time using it; we STRONGLY suggest you open only the XDF first and read the chip in to a blank BIN. So again --- Open the XDF, enter Use Key, DO NOT LOAD A BIN, Hit the "Down Arrow" on the software header, modify, hit the "Up Arrow" on the software header to send file to chip.... Simple. --- Carry on.............

cool TUNING NOTE: It is best to use the Full Chip Erase file before each new tune is loaded to the chip. This prevents Checksum and Upload failure.

First Time Users, see these images!

OLD HARDWARE STUFF BELOW------HARD TO MISS NOW I HOPE!----------------------------------------------

Okay, lets begin with the old version of our software loading/tuning/burning jazz....

If you do not use TunerPro R/T, but instead just Flash & Burn, skip to the bottom for the addressing chart. Download the Flash & Burn utility, in this link. You will use TunerPro R/T if you bought a Complete Tuning Package or have our template, Flash & Burn if you only bought a Chip and Burner, and NOT a Complete Tuning Package. ---  You  DO NOT need both TunerPro and Flash & Burn

  • Follow all of the steps below to initiate and use the utility if using TunerPro R/T.
  • Follow only 1 thru 3 if you have just Flash & Burn, but add a 4th step to it .. -- Do 1 thru 3 before you start (4th step here) Flash & Burn.
  1. Plug in chip to burner
  2. Plug in mini USB cable to burner
  3. Plug in cable to Laptop/Desktop USB

NOTE: --- To avoid a possible arc scenario, always Release the hardware or unplug the cable BEFORE removing the chip from the burner.

Now, Initiate the burner tool interface by doing what is in the photos.

Next, look at the bottom left corner for the correct software being detected by TunerPro.  Once initiated, you will hear a "BEEP" if you have sound and volume up.

Once you see the Hardware Initiated, you can use your corresponding addresses for reading and writing. See the software product page for your specific addresses for your XDF.

  • The 93-95 Lincoln Mark VIII is a 1 Bank ECU, 96 is 2 Bank and 97-98 is a 4 Bank.
  • All Ford Thunderbird/Cougar and Mustang in 96 and 97 are 2 Bank.
  • 98-04 Mustang is 4 Bank
  • 91-93 Thunderbird/Cougar is 1 Bank.
  • Some 94-95 Thunderbird/Cougar and Mustang V6 is a 2 Bank OBD-2 and same with the V8's.
  • All V8 Mustangs in 94-95 is 1 Bank.
J3 CHIP READING / WRITING ADDRESSES

Chip Address
Buffer Address
Bank(s)StartEndStartEnd
1 (56k)  0x00 320000x00 3FFFF0x00 000000x00 0DFFF
2 (256k)0x00 000000x00 3FFFF0x00 000000x00 3FFFF
4 (256k)0x00 000000x00 3FFFF0x00 000000x00 3FFFF

Please note that for Ford, the following is true:

- Starter binaries are supplied with the XDF TunerPro definitions, and it is advisable to use these.
- Any EEC-IV binary you use must begin with code (FF FA etc). So, it must be a 56k or smaller file.
- If an EEC-IV has 2000 hex of blank padding at the front that will NOT work!
- These files should allow emulation and binary editing.

- For EEC-V, you MUST use a 256k file. This is a full 4-banks of information, arranged as 64k blocks from banks 0,1,8,9.
- If you do NOT have padding in your EEC-V file, or if it is arranged differently, this will NOT work!
- This means no 112k, 128k, or 224k files.
- Only 256k 0189 EEC-V files should be used, such as what comes out of a BURN1/F2A/F2E combo.

Finally, after you have figured out the process above, you can start burning the J3 Chip with tunes. To do this, follow the directions below.

You should already have the burner and switch (if used) attached to the chip and Flash & Burn started.

Before any new tunes can be loaded, you should erase the chips current tune(s). If you have a 4 position switch, start at Position 0 on the knob. This is all the way counter-clockwise on the dial. Position 1 is one click clockwise and so on.

Take a look at an example below on how to load a tune file.

Make sure you're selection on the dropdown is J3 Ford Adapter then hit "Load Buffer to File". You will notice the addresses automatically populate as needed. Once it has loaded, go to the position on the knob where you want to load the file to, and select "Program Chip" to program that position. Continue to fill each position the same way with whatever tune. The switch is not required to burn a chip or use the loaded tuning. If you don't want to use the switch, just ensure the entire chip is erased and burn only one tune. Easy and simple..
